Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 will start the options process in February and March in preparation for beginning selected courses in June. Students in Year 8 and 9 have had parents evening prior to the options evening so that they feel informed about which areas of the curriculum their children are doing well in to support the decision making process.
Our options evening is held for students, parents and carers to discuss the options available with key staff at the academy and will provide students with the chance to make relevant and informed decisions. It is hoped that this process will result in all students choosing courses and subjects that are appropriate and give them the best chance of success and fulfilment.
In Years 9, 10 and 11 all students will follow a core curriculum that is non-negotiable and will then be provided with a variety of option courses that they can select to supplement their individual timetable. It is highly recommended that students make the most of the Options Evening, and the support provided, to gain a sound understanding of the different options available to them.
Students should seek to select courses based on interests, future career aspirations, previous performance, and chance of success at the end of Years 10 and 11. We try to give as many students their first choices as possible but this is not always achievable due to staff availability and/or lack of demand in a specific course. Thus, we ask students to select several preferences so that we can use these choices should a course not be viable to run.
On the evening we will also have a range of colleges and external providers who will be on hand to discuss what relevant qualifications are needed for students to move onto their next destinations.
Students should take their time to consider their Options Booklet and review the different courses available to them before going online to make their final choices.
For any additional information regarding the Options Process please contact Miss Whitehead at the academy.
After our options evening on Thursday 27th February the PowerPoint slides from the Options Evening briefings and Options Booklets will be saved here for parents and students to access in supporting the choices they will make.
Access to the online options website for students making their final choices will also be available from this page..
